A couple of weeks back, we announced the partnership of Poolz and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) to enable cross-chain IDOs on Poolz. We have always envisioned an interoperable, blockchain-agnostic DeFi ecosystem where applications and cryptocurrencies from across all blockchains can interact with each other. This partnership with BSC was our fourth in a long series of such partnerships.
In this article, we explain how you can integrate your MetaMask wallet with the Binance Smart Chain and start storing and transacting BEP20 tokens of projects based on the Binance Smart Chain.
How to Connect MetaMask with Binance Smart Chain
As Poolz aims to conduct cross-chain IDOs, it is important that our users are able to transact and use tokens from across various blockchains from the same interface. In regards to the Binance Smart Chain, you can easily do so by connecting their MetaMask wallets with BSC. But by default, MetaMask wallet only supports and displays tokens on the Ethereum chain.
If you want to store and transact BEP20 tokens on your MetaMask wallet, you will have to first connect your wallet to the Binance Smart Chain so it supports BEP20 tokens. Here’s how you can do it:
Step 1: Go to the official MetaMask website and install the MetaMask wallet on your mobile phone or install a browser extension on Chrome or Brave browser. Once installed and set up, you can pin the extension to the extension bar on the right corner of your browser.
Step 2: Click on the wallet extension icon that appears beside the website link column on the browser. When the extension opens, click on “Ethereum Mainnet” to change or modify the blockchain preference on your wallet.
Note: You can do the same by expanding the extension and opening the MetaMask wallet in a new tab or you can do it directly from the drop. In this article, we have explained it by using the extension popup.
Step 3: From the drop-down menu that appears, select “Custom RPC.” A form will appear requesting you to enter the details of the blockchain network you want to connect to your MetaMask wallet.
Step 4: Enter the details in the form as mentioned below:
Network name: Binance Smart Chain
New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed1.binance.org:443
Currency Symbol: BNB
Block Explorer: https://explorer.binance.org/smart
Step 5: After the BSC network is added to your wallet, you can click on the “Ethereum Mainnet” again and select Binance Smart Chain to switch your wallet to the BSC network. The wallet will start displaying tokens and balances that you hold on the Binance Smart Chain, i.e. BEP20 standard tokens, instead of the Ethereum Mainnet.
Precaution: Never transfer a BEP20 token directly from the Binance Smart Chain to an Ethereum wallet address or vice versa. The tokens will be lost forever. Simply put, there are many tokens supported across multiple blockchain networks, but they cannot be transferred from one blockchain to the other.
The Way Forward
Once you’ve connected your MetaMask wallet with the Binance Smart Chain, you will be able to store BNB and other BEP20 tokens on your wallet. This means you can invest in BSC projects that conduct their IDOs on Poolz without having to switch your wallet.
